The reporting location for this position is Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area located at 5172 Highway 78, Borrego Springs, CA 92004. This position will work under the general direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory).
This position will support the development and implementation of natural resources management projects, planning, and stewardship throughout the district's five units. Specifically, the position will support the district's restoration and habitat monitoring programs and will take a lead role in implementation of these programs at three park units (i.e., Picacho SRA, Salton Sea SRA, and Indio Hills Palms property). The Environmental Scientist will compile data, manage records, analyze results, and make recommendations for natural resources management throughout the district. The position will plan natural resources projects and may serve as the liaison for regulatory permits for district projects.

This position is Permanent Intermittent and will generally be scheduled up to 1500 hours per year, depending on project need and funding availability. As project need and funding allow, time may be extended by 540 hours, not to exceed 2040 hours per year.

Minimum Requirements: Possession of a bachelor's or advanced degree with a major in a biological, chemical, physical, or environmental science, soil science, water science, hydrology, agronomy, natural resource science, environmental or public health, physical geography, or a closely related scientific discipline. (Admission to a masters or doctoral degree program in a biological, chemical, physical, or environmental science, soil science, water science, hydrology, agronomy, natural resource science, environmental or public health, physical geography, or a closely related scientific discipline shall be considered to meet these education qualifications.) Candidates must successfully take the Environmental Scientist Examination, above, to be eligible for recruitment.
Examination: All candidates must successfully take the Environmental Scientist Examination (https://calcareers.ca.gov/CalHrPublic/Exams/ExamBulletin.aspx?ExamControlId=1709) that scores candidates on experience and education. Once taken, exam scores are active for one year and may be used for eligibility to any Environmental Scientist posting. The examination is open year-round.
