ORGANIZATIONAL STATEMENT:

Boquet River Association (BRASS) is a non-profit, membership-based, volunteer-oriented organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of water and life in the 280-square mile Boquet River watershed. BRASS accomplishes projects through public education, action, and coordination of funding and implementation strategies that combine the skills and services of local volunteers, organizations, governments, and New York State agencies.

POSITION SUMMARY:

BRASS is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader for advancing the organization’s mission, overseeing its day-to-day operation and driving strategic initiatives to enhance the quality of water and life within the Boquet River watershed and adjacent environs.

Compensation: Anticipated salary is $60,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus paid time off including vacation and sick time.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mission Advancement:

  • Champion the mission and values of BRASS within the community and among stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement strategies to fulfill the organization's goals as outlined in the mission statement.
  • Cultivate relationships with key partners, volunteers, organizations, governments, and New York State agencies to enhance collaboration and project success.

Strategic Leadership:

  • Work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a strategic plan that aligns with the organization's mission that ensures sustainable growth.
  • Provide visionary leadership to identify emerging opportunities, trends, and challenges in the environmental and non-profit sectors.

Operational Oversight:

  • Manage day-to-day operations, including budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation to ensure the effective use of resources.

Fundraising and Membership Development:

  • Lead fundraising efforts to secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and government sources to sustain and expand BRASS initiatives.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with donors, sponsors, and partners to build a robust funding network.

Community Engagement and Public Relations:

  • Represent BRASS in public forums, events, and media to raise awareness and garner support for the organization's mission.
  • Foster a sense of community and engagement among BRASS members, volunteers, and the broader Boquet River watershed community.

Advocacy and Collaboration:

  • Advocate for policies and practices that align with BRASS's mission at local, state, and national levels.
  • Collaborate with governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, and community groups to leverage collective resources and expertise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an accredited College or University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences or a related field and three years of environmental work experience, or
  • Graduation from high school or high school equivalency diploma and twelve years of experience in the non-profit organization sector as outlined below.
  • Proven leadership experience in the non-profit sector, with a focus on organization management, environmental conservation, ecosystem services, or related fields.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in fundraising and grant writing.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues and policies, particularly related to water quality
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as outlined above

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  •   Familiarity with water chemistry reporting and analysis.
  •   Project management experience.
  •   Experience working with engineers, geotechnical experts, hydrologists.
  •   Familiarity with social media and electronic communications.
  •   Familiarity with CRM and fundraising technology.

The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to advance BRASS's mission and build a resilient ecosystem that contributes to a sustainable future for the Boquet River watershed and its residents.
