What You Will Do

The Facilities and Land Manager is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the facilities, and grounds, of the Ogden Nature Center (ONC), including both the ONC Main and North locations. The incumbent is the direct supervisor of the Maintenance positions as well as oversees multiple relevant contract support projects.

Located in the heart of Ogden, Utah, the Ogden Nature Center is an award-winning 152-acre nature preserve and education center. The Ogden Nature Center offers a wide variety of classes & workshops for all ages, summer camps, hiking trails, live animal exhibits, self-guided experiences, community events, and more.

This position offers a unique opportunity to be involved in all aspects of our work at the Ogden Nature Center including stewardship of our nature preserve, caring for our buildings so that they can serve our mission of uniting people with nature, supporting our Education Department, and administrative and budgeting work associated with these activities.

Responsibilities Include:  

  • Oversees all aspects of management of the Ogden City lease, the land, trails, roads, facilities and resident wildlife of the ONC. Assures adequate plans are created and implemented consistent with ONC’s mission and lease. Oversees budget creation and execution to support all relevant projects.  Oversees the beneficial use of ONC’s Dinsdale Water Company water rights in conjunction with the Conservation Manager.  
  • Oversees and manages all aspects of the ONC’s built infrastructure and facilities. This includes all buildings, roads, trails, and utilities. 
  • Oversees and inspects the work performed by consultants and contractors; ensures that work product is compliant with contract provisions, standards, and legal and regulatory requirements.
  • With the Executive Director, plans and executes large scale renovations of infrastructure on property and building of new infrastructure.
  • Acts as the primary contact for external contracts for upkeep of buildings onsite, including landscaping, electrical, heating and cooling, plumbing, appliances, and general repairs.
  • Directly supervises the onsite Maintenance Staff and contract landscaping staff to improve the visitor experience through scheduling day to day maintenance activities including, but not limited to: mowing, road and trail maintenance, snow removal, irrigation, event set-up and general beautification of ONC grounds. Oversees and assures the preventive maintenance of all buildings, utilities, vehicles, and related equipment.
  • With the Executive Director, is responsible for risk management and emergency response plan. Identifies and schedules appropriate training, assesses preparedness of the staff, and provides feedback to the Executive Director and staff. 
  • Conducts appropriate record keeping and report writing.
  • Develops and nurtures community partnerships.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • College graduate with a bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in either: nonprofit management, school or business administration, project management or equivalent.
  • Love for working and being outdoors.
  • Strong writing and oral skills.
  • Computer skills associated with report-writing, data analysis, and proposal development.
  • Proven project management skills; able to keep track of complex logistical details with excellent planning and execution ability for multiple projects and priorities.
  • Prioritizing relationship-building and professional integrity, while demonstrating commitment to Ogden Nature Center’s mission and values.
  • Ability to devise and implement effective systems and processes, solve unique problems, and is skilled at thinking creatively and critically. They can also communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple stakeholders. 
  • Interest in conservation and environmental education. 
  • Experience supervising a small team of staff members.

Requirements:  

  • Must be a US citizen or a lawful permanent resident
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Must pass a background check

Hours and Schedule:  

Salaried, over-time exempt employee, works at least 40 hours per week. Some evenings and weekends are required.
