**This position is responsible for delivering educational material to participants of Denali Educaiton Center's (DEC) learning vacation programs. Experience as an outdoor naturalist or guide is a MUST. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience guiding in the sub-arctic and boreal forest.
Position Overview:
Field educators are responsible for contributing to and teaching classroom-based interpretive programs (primarily for our adult learning vacation participants), leading on-trail interpretive hikes in Denali’s front country, and providing educational programs for tour groups. Through these programs, DEC Field Educators aim to inform and inspire land stewardship.
Main Position Responsibilities:
- Present in-depth natural history classes for all DEC program participants.
- Guide interpretive hikes on front-country trails for groups of up to 25 people.
- Travel with groups on a chartered bus into DENA and provide Denali focused interp.
- Assist with set up, tear down, and clean up for programs (some may include food service).
- Assist with DEC’s sustainability efforts by educating guests about DEC’s community initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Ability to speak formally and informally to large audiences with diverse backgrounds.
- Experience guiding, living, or interacting with the sub-arctic and boreal forest.
- Experience managing large group dynamics including risk management and group travel.
- Strong interpersonal and crowd management skills.
- Understanding of scientific processes, ability to familiarize yourself with Alaska specific information.
- Ability to have fun, be flexible, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Possession of current CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
- Desire to live and work in a remote community in Denali, AK.
