The Southern Plains Fire Group is hiring a Seasonal GS 5 Fire Effects Monitor (Biological Science Technician) to assist with vegetation monitoring in National Park Service Units in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and New Mexico. Based out of Lake Meredith National Recreation Area in Fritch, TX, this position involves extensive travel where employees will stay in hotels, park housing or backcountry camp to complete field work. The anticipated start date is Monday, April 21, 2025 with an end date of Friday, October 17, 2025. The bulk of the season will consist of field work visiting monitoring plots and identifying grasses, herbs, shrubs and trees to species. Other work includes data entry and management. While not required of the position, if interested, the incumbent may obtain their red card and assist with prescribed fire operations and wildland fire suppression.

To qualify, applicants need one year of specialized work experience collecting vegetation or ecological field data OR at least 24 semester hours of any combination of courses in the sciences OR a combination of education and work experience.
