Fisheries Technician - Endangered Species

Position Overview: 

We are seeking 1-2 technicians to assist with a graduate research project monitoring Pallid Sturgeon (federally endangered) in the lower Platte River, Nebraska using acoustic telemetry. The duration for the position is 5 months (800 hours) with the possibility of extension pending funding and performance. General tasks include recapturing Pallid Sturgeon using gill nets, downloading and maintaining passive telemetry receivers, active tracking, and gear maintenance. In addition, candidates must be able to work a variable schedule, be comfortable on a boat/airboat, conduct manual labor in possibly harsh conditions, and can expect to work 40 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Must have a valid driver’s license as well as coursework/degree in wildlife/fisheries science or other closely related field.  Successful employment is contingent on background check. 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Trailering a boat 
  • Sampling fish using standard fisheries methods 
  • Good oral communication skills 
  • Work as a team member 
  • Accurately collect, record, and maintain scientific data
