Forest Health Engine Captain, Wildland Fire Management Supervisor (WFMS)

Salary: $3,811.00 - $5,117.00 Monthly

Responsibilities:
- Fire Suppression
- Serve as a critical member of DNR’s Wildland Fire Suppression Team.
- Forest Health
- Conducts prescribed fire and fuels mitigation work related to forest health treatments across all lands, with specific priority given to private, community, federal, DNR trust lands and other state (non-DNR Trust) lands.
- Wildland Fire Training
- Assist and/or lead in-house district training courses as assigned under the direction of the supervisor. Elements include safety, equipment usage, fire behavior, fire suppression strategy and tactics, aircraft support, origin identification and protection, and the Incident Command System.
- Supervision
- Assign work to subordinate staff.
- Setting performance standards and expectations.
- Monitoring work performed by subordinate staff, and providing appropriate feedback.
- Evaluating and documenting performance
- Guiding training and development planning.
- Community Wildfire Prevention/Preparedness
- Deliver activities that support and promote community resilience to wildfire that achieve a co-benefit to forest health.
Required Qualifications:
- Two years of related field experience.
- NWCG qualified as a Single Resource Boss (Engine or Crew) and Incident Commander Type 5.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience with computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and GPS.
- Experience with the following:
- Mapping tools/applications (Avenza/GPS etc.)
- Smoke complaints
- Public education (prevention/regulation)
- Tree/brush-thinning/pruning/piling
- Rule/permit burning
- IFPL and FDR zones
- Fire Prevention Programs (Smokey events)
- Fire Suppression
- Professional writing and verbal communication skills and ability to work with the public, sometimes under stressful conditions.
- Ability to act promptly and use good judgment in emergencies.
