Timber Sales Forester, Natural Resource Specialist 2 (NRS2)
Work Hours flexibility may be available and considered
Salary: $3,811.00 - $5,783.00 Monthly

Responsibilities:

  • Timber sale planning, design, and layout, including stream type determination, identification of potentially sensitive areas, boundary location and marking, reserve and legacy tree identification and marking, identifying appropriate harvest systems, and locating roads to access landing locations.
  • Timber sale design that provides appropriate resource protection identified in DNR policies, procedures, and forest practices requirements.
  • Communication and consultation with the public, specialists, and external partners.
  • Harvest plan development that ensures economic and operational viability.
  • Timber sale document preparation including SEPA, Forest Practices applications, Silvicultural prescriptions, and GIS maps.
  • Timber sale contract development, compliance, and closeout.
  • Timber cruising to evaluate current and planned harvest areas.

Qualifications

This may be filled as an in-training position. This is designated as a 12-24 month training plan. If you complete all elements of the training steps in a shorter amount of time, we may waive the remainder of the time required. Candidates will be considered as Natural Resource Specialist 1 (In-Training) or Natural Resource Specialist 2 (NRS2), depending on qualifications.

Required Qualifications: 
Natural Resource Specialist 1 (In-Training)  
(Salary range: $3,811 - $5,117 per month):

  • AA degree in forestry or a Natural Resource related field of study, or a combination of education and/or experience equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of forest management objectives, timber management objectives, and silvicultural practices.
  • Knowledge of GPS equipment and ESRI GIS program to map unit boundaries and road layouts.
  • Knowledge of contracting procedures.
  • Knowledge of logging and forest road layout.
  • Experience using computer applications such as Arc GIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook etc.
  • Shown ability to work independently or as part of a team on assigned tasks, and adapt to changing needs.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.

Natural Resource Specialist 2  
(Salary range: $4,299 - $5,783 per month):

  • A bachelor’s degree in forestry or a Natural Resource-related field of study, or a combination of education and/or experience equivalent.
  • Experience with forest management objectives, timber management objectives, and silvicultural practices.
  • Experience with GPS equipment and ESRI GIS program to map unit boundaries and road layouts.
  • Experience with contracting procedures.
  • Logging and forest road layout experience.
  • Experience in computer applications such as Arc GIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook etc.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Shown ability to work independently or as part of a team on assigned tasks and adapt to changing needs.
