OVERVIEW
In this role, you will be actively involved in protecting and improving our forests by treating invasive species, conducting forest reconnaissance, and performing regeneration surveys. You will also have the opportunity to work alongside experienced foresters, gaining valuable experience in timber marking, scaling harvested timber, classifying forest types, and assisting in management planning for timber stands.
Typical Work Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (40-hour weeks)
Season Duration: Approximately four months, starting in late May. (Can be flexible on end date for college students returning to school in August/September).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Must be enrolled or have obtained a bachelor’s degree in forestry program or related natural resources field. Knowledge of dendrology, silviculture, aerial photograph interpretation, land navigation preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Possess and maintain valid driver’s license
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB
- Ability to conduct forest measurements which include the use of compass and pace, clinometer, increment borer, diameter tape and basal area prism
- Knowledge of Dendrology, Silviculture, plant identification, habitat typing, aerial photograph interpretation, land navigation, and reading maps
- Ability to work in varied terrain and adverse weather conditions
- Ability to read and interpret documents, and laws in the English language
- Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas in spoken and written format so individuals may effectively understand and convey communications
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Inductive and deductive reasoning – ability to combine separate pieces of information, or specific answers to problems, to form general rules or conclusions; includes coming up with a logical explanation for why a series of seemingly unrelated events occur together and deciding if an answer makes sense
