Paradigm Environmental is currently seeking a skilled GIS Analyst to join our highly motivated and talented team of engineers and modelers in our Fairfax, VA office. As a GIS Analyst, you will play a critical role in supporting various water resource planning and engineering projects by providing geospatial analysis, data management, and cartographic expertise. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a GIS professional passionate about water resources and seeking to contribute to meaningful projects that positively impact communities and the environment. This is a hybrid position with 2-3 days onsite at Paradigm's office.

Job Summary

  • Utilize GIS software and other tools to perform geospatial analysis, modeling, and visualization related to environmental data and water resources projects. Proficiency with QGIS is essential. Experience with ESRI products a plus.
  • Organize, maintain, and process geospatial data from various sources, ensuring data integrity and consistency. Implement data quality checks and develop procedures for data integration.
  • Create visually compelling and informative maps, charts, and graphs to communicate geospatial information effectively to clients, stakeholders, and team members.
  • Collaborate with water resources engineers, planners, and other team members to provide GIS support throughout the project lifecycle. Contribute to project planning, execution, and reporting.
  • Assist in designing and developing GIS databases specific to water resources projects. Implement geodatabase design standards and best practices.
  • This includes hydrological modeling, watershed analysis, floodplain mapping, and spatial analysis of water infrastructure.
  • Comfortable in the use of programming for create customized GIS tools and scripts to streamline workflows and improve productivity for environmental and water resource workflows (e.g., watershed delineation process, urban drainage studies, etc.).
  • Experience with Python or R programming languages and related libraries (e.g., e.g., rasterio, GDAL, OGR, Geopandas, Fiona, Shapely, etc.) for geoprocessing data manipulation and processing.
  • Highly comfortable processing, transforming, and manipulating data sets in raster format. Experience working with LiDAR data sets is a plus.
  • Occasionally interact with clients to understand their GIS-related needs, present findings, and provide technical support.
  • Actively maintain proficiency with the latest advancements in GIS technology and water resources management topics. Contribute innovative ideas to enhance GIS capabilities within the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field with 3-years of experience, or a Master's degree with 1-year of experience.
  • Proficiency in cartographic principles and experience in map design.
  • Proven experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial analysis tools.
  • Programming (e.g., Python, JavaScript, R) and GIS automation skills with experience or ability to learn GitHub for source code version control.
  • Familiarity with environmental and water resources-related datasets and hydrological concepts (streamflow, watershed delineation, flood mapping, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for data management and analysis.
  • GISP certification is a plus but not required.
