Stillwater Sciences seeks a mid-level GIS Analyst/Cartographer to serve as a member of our GIS team and provide support to river restoration and watershed analysis projects throughout the Western U.S. This position will support spatial analysis, data management and figure production needs across the company and perform GIS administration tasks as part of a collaborative GIS support team. This is a full-time, hybrid role based out of our Berkeley, CA or Arcata, CA or Portland, OR office. We are not accepting fully remote candidates at this time. APPLY HERE

The GIS Analyst/Cartographer will:

  • Collaborate with project teams to manage GIS data, perform geospatial analyses, and generate maps and figures that support a variety of projects. 
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control of geospatial data, follow specific data management and cartographic protocols, create and maintain metadata documentation.
  • Collaborate with non-GIS staff to explain spatial data, communicate data processing workflows needs, and create appropriate solutions.
  • Provide a wide range of customized cartographic support, including maps for project reports, field efforts, presentations, and other needs.
  • Support field tablet and handheld GNSS mobile mapping device (e.g., Trimble) preparation, processing and management.
  • Develop and maintain webmaps using ArcGIS Online; support Survey123 development.
  • Support GIS and AutoCAD data integration workflows.
  • Support development of internal best practices and workflow optimization.
  • Manage multiple tasks across a variety of projects and teams, meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Work as an integral part multidisciplinary resource teams including biologists, geomorphologists, engineers and other professional staff.

Ideal applicants should bring:

  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a high standard of quality in cartographic representation and metadata maintenance. Knowledge of basic principles of graphic design.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical questions, issues, or ideas to both GIS and non-GIS staff.
  • Eagerness to take on GIS administration duties and act as technological support to technical staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple and conflicting deadlines, excellent time management skills, strong intrapersonal skills, and a willingness to be flexible in approaches to completing tasks.
  • Strong work ethic, detail-orientation, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative setting as part of a GIS team providing service to a diverse group of project managers and technical leads.
  •  Experience with geospatial workflows for Civil Engineering and familiarity with AutoDesk Civil 3D.
  • Experience in web mapping and programming (Python, Javascript and ESRI Javascript API, CSS, HTML5).
  • Experience in Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, and LiDAR processing.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of professional GIS experience in consulting environment.
  • Strong scientific background; knowledge of and passion for other physical or biological sciences (e.g., geomorphology, hydrology, water quality) ideal.
  • Experience with ESRI's ArcGIS Pro 3.4/ArcGIS Desktop 10.8 and ArcGIS Online. Knowledge of QGIS and Google Earth a plus.
  • Experience with electronic data collection and processing (ArcGIS Collector/Field Maps, Survey123, ArcGIS online dashboards, Trimble Terrasync and Pathfinder Office).

  • Full-time, 40 hours/week position in Berkeley, CA or Arcata, CA or Portland, OR
  • Stillwater Sciences provides a competitive compensation package including paid time off, 401(k) plan, Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), and full health and dental care.
  • $32.50 - $37 per hour (equivalent to $67,600-$76,960 annually, working 40 hours/week). Compensation rate is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a non-exempt position. 
  • Hybrid role, with at least 3 days/week-in office. We may request that your first month(s) are primarily in-office.
