Background
Nexus Environmental Consultants, Inc. (Nexus) is a natural resources consulting firm specializing in state and federal permitting. Our team of scientists and other specialists routinely complete baseline characterization, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis, mitigation, and compliance projects for geothermal, mining, non-profit, ranching, solar, and governmental clients within Nevada and other western states.
Position Announcement
Nexus is seeking a GIS Analyst/Specialist for work in northern Nevada. Duties would include, but not be limited to the following: geoprocessing and analyses, map creation (cartography) and figure creation for technical reports and NEPA documents, as well as field work, database management, and web-based GIS. Other tasks may be included based on workload. This is a full-time position, overtime-eligible, with full benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401K match, and annual paid leave. The successful applicant will function as a member of the existing GIS team at Nexus, with opportunities for growth.
Work Duties
- Georeferencing and digitizing of raster data. Geoprocessing in support of proposal calculations, technical reports, and NEPA documents.
- Map/figure creation in support of proposal estimates, technical reports, and NEPA documents.
- Data management for environmental resources (e.g., statewide raptor nest surveys, burrowing owl surveys, migratory bird surveys, NEPA GIS administrative files, etc.)
- Compile, manipulate, interpret, and refine geospatial data from a variety of sources including but not limited to: satellite imagery, aerial photographs, existing geospatial data, CAD drawings, and GPS field data.
- Ability to create, design, and manage file geodatabases.
- Support field staff by preparing pre-field files, web applications for data collection, and processing post-field data.
- Supporting staff through building and maintaining web maps and application
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Geography and or GIS; or a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in natural resources, environmental science, biology, hydrology, ecology, or related field required with GIS credentials and experience.
- 3+ years of GIS experience (highly experienced candidates will also be considered).
- Must be located in Nevada.
- Experience georeferencing and digitizing data.
- Map/figure creation and associated cartography skills required.
- Experience supporting field work and staff by preparing field files and creating web applications for data collection.
- Experience using ArcGIS Pro, Spatial Analyst tools, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Field maps and other Esri applications.
- Experience working with natural resources spatial data (e.g., botany, wildlife, soils, hydrology, etc.) preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively to process GIS requests.
- Ability to work remotely and stay motivated and on task.
- Ability to work independently and with others.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
