We’re looking for a Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) guru to join our team! Do you enjoy state parks like Davy Crockett enjoyed the Tennessee frontier? Can you manage GIS systems like Elvis rocked a guitar? Do you have a passion for parks, outdoor recreation, and conserving our natural environment? This GIS Technician position is a contract assignment through Covendis Workforce Management not to exceed two years with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). This position supports the Bureau of Conservation and is housed in the Office of Outdoor Recreation - work location is remote alternative workspace within Tennessee.
The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; be a creative problem solver and self-starter, able to work independently with minimal direction; and have the flexibility to work effectively on multiple simultaneous projects with a number of internal and external stakeholders.
The preferred candidate will have expert knowledge of Esri software, including ArcGIS Pro as well as ArcGIS Online. Proficiency in creating, editing, managing, and publishing GIS feature data, both in a geodatabase environment and on the cloud is required. Candidates will be proficient in cartographic design, geospatial analysis methods and building GIS applications. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Avenza MAPublisher, Arcade and/or JavaScript programming or API’s integration for GIS applications is desirable.
Preferred candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in Geography, Earth Science, Data Science, or a related field and 2 years of relevant work experience in the conservation, natural resources or recreation industries. Qualifying graduate-level coursework in GIS may substitute for the work experience requirement on a year for year basis, to a maximum of two years. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications are necessary. The position will conduct periodic field-work across the state.
Highlighted Responsibilities:
• Serve as a GIS consultant and help to apply geospatial analysis and potential solutions to solve business needs across the Bureau
• Support GIS data collection at Parks and provide timely map updates
• Build custom GIS tools, reporting, and visualization of spatial data
• Create, edit, manage, and publish GIS feature datasets, both in a geodatabase environment and on the cloud
