POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Grants Accountant works directly with program directors to perform administrative functions related to Sustainable Northwest’s grants including: billing funders, providing financial reports, monitoring spend down, assisting program directors with budget projections, Journal entries related to grant activity, tracking match sources, subrecipient invoicing and monitoring, procurement, and other tasks. 

To be successful, the person in this position will enjoy working simultaneously on multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment, where the abilities to rise to a challenge, show initiative, exercise independent judgment, and maintain focus are essential.

Strategic thinking and an exceptional level of attention to detail are also key.

Preference is for the position to be based in Portland, Oregon, or Seattle, Washington, but remote work options elsewhere in Oregon and Washington will be considered.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Maintain internal systems for tracking federal, state, and local government requirements and policies for grants and contracts. Maintain accurate and complete electronic files on the Google Workspace and Salesforce.
  • Work with program managers and directors to write sub-awardee contracts; track sub-awardee expenses, engage and work with partners to gather outcomes data and milestones, and matching funds; prepare invoices; and serve as a liaison with sub-awardees and government contacts.
  • Research and thoroughly understand government policies and procedures related to all of SNW’s government grants and contracts and work closely with the Director of Programs, program staff, and finance staff to ensure financial and programmatic compliance.
  • Management procurement and RFP and RFQ processes and documentation.
  • Assist with sub-recipient relationships, including managing invoices and contracts with sub-recipients as well as coordinating grant monitoring
  • In collaboration with program staff, assist with developing and submitting high quality proposals, budgets and reports (narrative and financial), and reimbursement requests for SNW’s programs while adhering to deadlines and making efficient use of program staff time.
