Do you enjoy plant sampling and working with South Dakota’s flora? If so, in this internship you will work alongside the Grassland Ecologist to sample South Dakota’s Game Production Areas to help monitor grassland quality. The intern will also be able to look for rare plant communities throughout South Dakota. Learn to independently identify plants and collect data using randomized plot sampling methods. The intern will learn different grassland monitoring skills to help prepare them for post-graduate school or a career in ecology. The intern will also learn grassland management techniques to improve the natural resources on our public lands. This position will require traveling and staying at various State Parks throughout the summer. Be prepared to work long hours in variable weather conditions. 

Applicants should have advanced plant identification skills and experience driving off-road vehicles and trucks.

HOW TO APPLY

Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program. 

All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
