At Saltwater Inc. we believe that high-quality data is vital to the health of our fisheries and oceans: our mission is to provide that data. We are a Women-Owned Small Business and are constantly seeking new team members who share our passion for innovation and environmental wellness. We are currently recruiting for a Green Sturgeon Recovery Coordinator. This individual will work with the California Central Valley Office (CCVO) to assist with critical needs for recovery of Southern Distinct Population Segment (sDPS) green sturgeon: green sturgeon science and regulatory expertise and work (about 40% of the time) and (2) green sturgeon recovery planning implementation (about 40% time). This individual will also be required to stay apprised of broader Central Valley fisheries and science efforts such as salmon and steelhead recovery planning and science because there is often a relationship to green sturgeon conservation (20% of time).

This work will be conducted off-site / remotely with occasional meetings at 650 Capitol Mall, Sacramento, or other West Coast Region locations for the purposes of meetings or fieldwork. The period of performance is one base year plus four option years, for a total potential of five years beginning May 1, 2025.

Tasks:

  • The contractor shall provide NMFS with conservation recommendations and suggested recovery actions for green sturgeon to the CCVO, which is implementing the NMFS Recovery Plan for the Southern Distinct Population Segment for the North American Green Sturgeon.
  • The contractor shall support CCVO outreach/education of the public to increase understanding of and exposure to green sturgeon presence in the Central Valley.
  • The contractor shall work with NOAA partner agencies on sturgeon science and help identify opportunities for useful studies and information application.
  • The contractor shall attend Interagency Ecological Program meetings to stay current on and advocate for science and monitoring efforts that advance the understanding of green sturgeon biology and ecology, and assist NOAA in leveraging opportunities for increased green sturgeon science understanding.
  • The contractor shall attend Interagency Ecological Program (IEP) meetings to stay apprised on the broader Central Valley fisheries monitoring efforts as they relate to CCVO actions and provide meeting notes from these meetings to the CCVO.
  • The contractor shall co-lead a CCVO recovery team, providing the team with recommendations for incorporating the green sturgeon recovery plan into the CCVO’s work.
  • The contractor shall support the CCVO implementing the Recovery Culture Work Plan, including leading actions relevant to green sturgeon recovery, as assigned.
  • The contractor shall provide technical support, as directed, for the 5-year status review for green sturgeon.
  • The contractor shall provide technical review of sturgeon-focused applications submitted through the ESA state 4(d) and 10(a)(1)(A) research programs, and the ESA Section 6 and Tribal grant programs.
  • The contractor shall provide support for science-based Central Valley structured decision-making efforts, especially to contribute to accurate inclusion of green sturgeon and a multispecies approach.
  • The contractor shall draft green sturgeon outreach materials for distribution to the public including updated informational fliers, GS distribution maps, CCVO recovery priorities and other externally facing materials that are described in the CCVO Recovery Culture Work Plan.
  • The contractor shall provide section 7 support to the CCVO through technical support or drafting consultation materials as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Expertise in green sturgeon life history in the California Central Valley
  • Expertise in the Endangered Species Act section 7 consultation process
