Head of Development & External Relations

African Wildlife Conservation Fund

www.africanwildlifeconservationfund.org

This is an exciting opportunity to join our small, dynamic Zimbabwean-based NGO, the African Wildlife Conservation Fund (AWCF).  We have been working in Zimbabwe since 2005 with a focus on the protection of endangered African wild dogs, cheetah and other large carnivores as well as the empowerment and livelihood development of the local communities that live alongside them.

We have grown considerably in recent years and have ambitious plans to expand the scope and geographical area of our programs. We are looking for a wildlife enthusiast – preferably with some African experience – that can help us to deliver on our ambitions.

You will:

  • Be able to demonstrate an interest and enthusiasm for wildlife conservation (preferably with experience of Africa)
  • Be able to demonstrate expertise in the development and growth of small organisations, including their financial sustainability
  • Have an enthusiastic and entrepreneurial outlook that enables you to identify and deliver on new opportunities
  • Be motivated by the challenge of expanding AWCF’s conservation and development impact
  • Be comfortable operating at a senior level working with government and the private sector
  • Work remotely – global locations possible, but preference will be given to applicants from Zimbabwe, the UK or the US
  • Be able to travel for periods up to 2 weeks at a time
  • Have a resilient personality and the ability to deal with all situations with good humour

You will join a senior team of experienced professionals that are committed to maximising their impact. You will be responsible for

  • Building and delivering on the development plan
  • Developing relationships and partnerships with external organisations including donors, senior government officials and the academic world
  • Governance and compliance in relevant jurisdictions
  • Representing AWCF at local and international meetings
  • Overseeing a world class social media presence
  • And - as a member of a small team - assist with the strategy and day-to-day operations of this highly successful NGO

You will work remotely, travel as necessary for the job, and have the opportunity to spend time at the AWCF field base in Zimbabwe.A competitive remuneration package is on offer.
