Horticulture and Natural Lands Intern
The Hay, Honey Farm
Bernardsville, New Jersey
Job Type | Paid Internship |
Salary Details | $15.50 per hour |
Deadline | Mar 28, 2025 |
Experience | 0 - 1 years |
The Hay, Honey Farm, a private garden/arboretum in Bernardsville, New Jersey, is accepting applications for our 2025 internships. Portions of the garden have been fenced to exclude deer since 1990, including about twelve acres of gardens, containing ornamental trees and shrubs, perennial borders, a vegetable and cut flower garden, and two large native woodland areas. The remaining property is comprised of woodlots, hayfields, riparian buffers, and conservation lands. Work is ongoing to restore native habitats both inside and outside of the deer fence.
Our seasonal internships are available March 17 through December 12, or portions thereof, and provide valuable hands-on experience in horticulture and land stewardship working side by side with seasoned professionals. Interns work about 20 hours each week, Monday through Friday. Days worked each week can be flexible from March through May and September to December, while classes are in session; from June through August interns work Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The work here is interesting and varies with the season: invasive species identification and control, tree planting & pruning, perennial divisions, vegetable gardening, turf maintenance, and more. The diversity of the plant collections here allows for a wide range of experiences in plant identification as well. Please note that the nature of the work requires our employees to perform strenuous tasks under a variety of challenging weather conditions. Starting pay is $15.50/hour; we are not able to provide housing.
