Dokken Engineering is seeking an early to mid-career full-time Wildlife Biologist in our Folsom, CA office. The candidate should have approximately 2 to 10 years of experience and would be joining our close-knit and driven multidisciplinary environmental team.  Dokken has provided environmental services for over 19 years, delivering innovative environmental solutions for local, state, and federally funded public works projects. Our primary focus is on infrastructure, including bicycle and pedestrian paths, bridges, roadways, water and irrigation facilities, dams, and other public facility projects.

Dokken is seeking a highly talented and motivated Wildlife Biologist/Environmental Planner to complete biological resource and environmental planning tasks.  This individual will be able to conduct field assessments of environmental resources, specifically including biological resources, and to prepare stand-alone environmental reports that comply with both CEQA and NEPA regulations.

The ideal candidate has been responsible for at least 2-3 projects on which he/she personally completed biological field surveys developed or assisted with crafting solutions for complex environmental situations; prepared written documentation of findings; and/or provided environmental support through construction. The candidate should have proven abilities in biological resource identification and assessments.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature research and record searches
  • Complete biological field surveys & collect field data
  • Develop solutions for complex biological settings
  • Write technical reports and environmental documentation, including but not limited to Natural Environment Studies, Aquatic Resource Delineation Reports, Biological Assessments, and Restoration/Re-vegetation Plans
  • Work with other disciplines within the company, clients, regulatory authorities and sub-consultants, in-person and with video/teleconference meetings
  • Secure environmental permits
  • Monitor construction work, ensuring compliance with the Federal and State Endangered Species Acts and NEPA/CEQA
  • Assist with developing and implementing mitigation and monitoring reporting programs
  • Overall transportation planning NEPA/CEQA compliance
  • Help in the preparation of proposals in response to client requests

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in biology, ecology, or a related field
  • 1-10 years of experience in related field work, preferably in California
  • Working knowledge of Federal and California environmental laws (i.e. the Federal and State Endangered Species Acts, Clean Water Act, NEPA, and CEQA)
  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with biological surveys in California and environmental studies
  • Experience with GPS/GIS applications
  • Competency using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with critical timelines
  • Strong organization and time management skills. Detail-oriented
  • Physically able to perform field work under a variety of conditions, including elevated temperatures (high or low) and inclement weather; and walk/hike and/or drive to remote locations over uneven terrain
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record

FLSA Status:           Full-Time Exempt

Compensation:     Competitive salary ranging from $67,000 to $110,000 commensurate with qualifications and level of experience

Location:                In-person at the Folsom HQ office. Intermittent travel throughout the State will be required.
