The District is seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join our team as an Invasive Species Biologist. This position plays a crucial role in the District’s efforts to restore native South Florida habitats by managing invasive plant species.  The incumbent will assist with planning, coordinating, and monitoring District invasive plant control operations in natural areas and restoration project lands. In addition to providing technical oversight of invasive plant management projects, the incumbent will provide contract management support including reviewing contractor deliverables, tracking purchase orders, and planning/monitoring budgets as well as data management and reporting duties.  The incumbent will participate on various interdisciplinary restoration teams and interagency groups coordinating ecosystem conservation initiatives.  This position reports to a Senior Supervising Scientist in the Invasive Species Management Unit.

The incumbent must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to plan and self-manage heavy workloads; enthusiasm; a temperament for dealing with harsh field conditions; and a willingness and commitment to actively contribute to a collaborative teamwork effort. 

Field experience with invasive plant species monitoring, control, and management in natural areas is preferred.  Knowledge of South Florida plant communities and plant identification skills are required.

Applicants must have an education background and practical work experience in applied ecology, field botany, and/or management of vegetation in natural areas. Applicants must also have good verbal and written communication skills, ability to plan and manage heavy workloads, enthusiasm and temperament for dealing with harsh wetland field conditions, and willingness and commitment to actively contribute to a collaborative team work effort.

Education/Experience Guidelines:
Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences and 2+ years of related experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within the scientific discipline that can be applied to support the District’s strategic goals and objectives.  The salary range for this position is $58,884.80 to $64,521.60
