Position Description:

Under limited supervision, manages the SCFC Invasive Species Program and provides forest Health assistance to SC Forestry Commission personnel and the public in order to enhance and protect SC's forest resource.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with field foresters and other SCFC personnel to provide invasive species identification and management advice to landowners.
  • Coordinate invasive species management efforts in communities.  
  • Maintain and disburse invasive species budget.
  • Organize invasive species trainings.
  • Conduct surveys for invasive species in the state of SC.
  • Assist other program area in support of the agency mission. 

Position Requirements:

  • At least two (2) years of professional forestry or natural resource management experience and a bachelor's or master's degree in forestry or natural resources management or related degree.
  • Proficient with Excel, ArcGIS/ArcPRO, GPS units and other spatial or tree data collection units.
  • Considerable knowledge of invasive species, management techniques for invasive species, including herbicide use and safety, as well as forest management practices.
  • Must be able to prepare and give presentations to peers and the general public.
    Must be able to resolve issues and conflicts. Must be able to work with the public.
  • A valid SC Driver's License is required. A criminal background check and pre-employment drug test are required.

Position Location: 

Position has optional work locations in Richland County, Florence County, and Newberry County.
