Distinguished Professor Karen Holl in the Environmental Studies Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz invites applications for a junior specialist position focusing on GIS and survey data management for a study of global reforestation efforts. The study includes a survey of how well over 100 global conservation organizations comply with best practices for tree growing and analysis of the effect of these projects on forest cover change (http://www.holl-lab.com/improving-tree-growing-campaigns.html). The position includes the following core functions.
- 75% - GIS analyses - compiling spatial data from various sources and analyzing tree cover change over time as a function of various environmental and social variables.
- 10% - Compiling and visualizing survey data.
- 10% - Working with the research team on experimental design and disseminating research results in written and graphical formats.
- 5% - Conducting literature and web searches for relevant information.
- 5% - Communicating with conservation organizations to secure data
