Land Stewardship Intern

We are searching for a Land Stewardship Intern at our Westervelt Ecological Services office in Golden, CO.
The primary purpose of this paid position is to give support to the Westervelt Ecological Services Land Stewardship Team. Duties would primarily consist of providing assistance in the field with monitoring and maintenance activities at our various existing and forthcoming Bank and Conservation sites, data analysis, and the production of technical documents and reports.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct land stewardship and site maintenance activities including weed control and vegetation management, tree maintenance, fence and gate repair, water and irrigation management, and coordination with lessees and neighbors.
- Operate, maintain, transport, and repair equipment, such as UTV's, tractors, trailers, mowers, chainsaws, string trimmers, etc. that may be used during the course of maintenance activities.
- Facilitate site access with outside parties including lessees, easement holders and utilities.
- Provide support to facilitate habitat restoration implementation.
- Coordinate with outside contractors performing land stewardship activities.
- Operate and maintain large scale farm irrigation equipment, including plumbing repair and electric motor and pump maintenance.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to travel overnight, sometimes for 3+ days during the work week will be required.
- Basic knowledge of the Rockies region flora and fauna, and general outdoor skills.
- Well-developed communication and people skills. Ability to effectively work in a team environment with associates.
- Good physical condition and ability to perform under adverse climatic working conditions and difficult terrain.
- Knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, etc.
- Be able to safely operate a 4-wheel drive pickup truck, UTV, and ATV. Must have a valid driver's license.
- Basic map and compass skills, ability to use handheld GPS units, and experience with GIS applications is highly desirable.
- Must be highly motivated.
- Must be available 40 hours a week in the summer and a minimum of 24 hours a week during the school year.
- Work schedules will be adjusted to the requirements of the activities and projects.
- Applicants must be enrolled for classes for Fall Semester 2025, pursuing a degree in biology, botany, environmental studies, ecology, or related field.
