Salary Details The base salary range for this position is $67,000 - $100,500. Actual base salary is based on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.

Westervelt Ecological Services is a leader in creating mitigation and conservation banks. We provide environmental mitigation and habitat planning services to landowners, businesses, government agencies, and land trusts. Our team excels in wetland and endangered species mitigation, establishing a nationwide habitat mitigation company.

We are seeking an experienced Land Stewardship Technician to join our team in Sacramento, CA. 

The Land Management Department is responsible for maintaining 14,000 acres of natural landscapes, including vernal pool grasslands, managed marshes, floodplain restoration, and riparian restoration projects owned by Westervelt Ecological Services.

The Land Stewardship Technician will conduct land and habitat management activities, maintaining WES' habitat preserves and appurtenances within the Western Region. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct land stewardship and site maintenance activities, including:
    • Weed control and vegetation management
    • Tree maintenance
    • Fence and gate repair
    • Water and irrigation management
    • Coordination with lessees and neighbors
  • Operate, maintain, transport, and repair equipment such as UTVs, tractors, trailers, mowers, chainsaws, and string trimmers.
  • Facilitate site access with outside parties, including lessees, easement holders, and utilities.
  • Support habitat restoration implementation.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors performing land stewardship activities.
  • Operate and maintain large-scale farm irrigation equipment, including plumbing repair and electric motor and pump maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 
  • 1 to 2 years of experience with increasing responsibility in ranching, farming or related land management field
  • Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Professional interaction skills with employees and contractors
  • Ability to work independently in remote field setting

Preferred Experience:

  • Class A Driver's Licenses (Strongly Preferred)
  • Mechanical aptitude to maintain/operate land management equipment (e.g., all-terrain vehicles, chainsaws, backhoes, tractors, mowers, pumps, etc.)  
  • Experience with basic metal fabrication and welding
