Reports To:                        Landcare Crew Lead

Status:                                Seasonal, full/part-time, nonexempt and at-will

Hours:   40 hours per week during the outdoor work season (early May – late October)

Rate:      $21.50 - $24 per hour depending on qualifications + Paid Holidays

+ Paid Time Off + Staff Development

Location:                            Minneapolis, MN. Projects occur throughout the Twin Cities metro area.

We manage the Blue Thumb - Planting for Clean Water partnership and own the for-profit Metro Blooms Design+Build, a full-service landscape design, construction, and landcare company. This position is employed by Metro Blooms Design+Build. 

Summary:

Landcare crew members care for and maintain native plant gardens and rain gardens of various sizes, completing garden maintenance tasks using sustainable techniques such as pulling, mowing, and smothering. Our crew members take pride in spending time with both establishing and established gardens, pulling weeds, pruning plants, replanting, repairing erosion, and sustaining urban wildlife habitat in sites across the Twin Cities. Crew members are also trained in the inspection of green stormwater infrastructure elements.

How you’ll spend your time:

  • Under the direction of the Landcare Crew Lead, you will work with a small crew to maintain residential to institutional-sized landscape beds, native plantings, raingardens and other vegetated Green Stormwater Infrastructure.
  • Work with other crew members to manage weedy plant species, maintain existing plantings, establish new vegetation, control erosion, and document maintenance activities
  • Utilize a wide variety of landscaping tools to complete landcare objectives, including hand tools, wheelbarrows, blowers, weed trimmers, brush cutter, and power tools
  • Plant trees, shrubs, forbs, grasses, seeds and other plant materials according to a plan
  • Complete garden maintenance tasks to a professional standard
  • Keep storage areas, equipment and vehicle clean and in good order throughout the season
  • Interact kindly and respectfully with other crew members, clients, residents, and members of the public, and represent Metro Blooms in a professional manner
  • Practice safe use of all tools and discuss safety guidelines for all work sites

Qualifications:

  • Willingness and desire to work as part of a team
  • Ability to complete tasks as they are assigned
  • Ability to communicate with the Landcare Crew Lead and fellow crew members effectively and professionally
  • Ability to complete demanding physical work outside, in all weather conditions
  • Interest in learning to identify native plants and common weeds
  • A strong affinity for the outdoors and for working hard in the dirt
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to arrive to work on time every day and be available for 40 hours/week early May – late October

Ideal Candidates have a minimum of 1 year of landscape maintenance or gardening experience and a strong interest in plant identification and native landscape ecology
