The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Drinking Water and Groundwater Program is recruiting to fill five (5) Lead and Copper Public Water Supply Field Specialist positions. These positions are responsible for coordinating field implementation of the lead and copper rule section of Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) for the Public Water Supply program within a defined geographic region. This position is responsible for implementation for both current and future versions of the lead and copper rule as applicable, including the existing lead and copper rule (NR 809 Subchapter II), the 2021 federal Lead and Copper Rule Revisions, and the anticipated 2024 federal Lead and Copper Rule Implements (LCRI).
Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following qualifications:
- Education, work experience, and/or specialized training in a science or health related field (such as geology, chemistry, biology, public health, conservation, environmental science, natural resources, freshwater science, hydrogeology, or similar field).
- Experience in the management and coordination of large datasets including the use of spreadsheets and databases (such as excel, oracle or similar).
- Experience communicating complex technical topics to a variety of audiences, including technical writing, verbal communication, and visual materials.
In addition, highly qualified candidates will have experience with two or more of the following qualifications:
- Related to drinking water systems, including but not limited to drinking water samples and water treatment.
- Drinking water contamination issues/water quality standards.
- Working with and/or volunteering in science or human health related organizations such as non‐profit organizations, nature centers, academic institutions, consulting firms, or local, state, or federal government agencies.
- Interpreting and applying state or federal statues and/or administrative codes related to the environment, natural resources, or public health.
