Crossroads at Big Creek Learning Center and Nature Preserve, located in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, is pleased to offer two Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions for the summer of 2025. These positions are funded through grants. Both positions are flexible, with funding anticipated for up to 10 weeks, working 35 hours per week. Both positions would aid in Crossroads land management, ecological restoration, educational programming and volunteer work parties.
Crossroads at Big Creek has 3 preserves within the City of Sturgeon Bay. Crossroads preserves boast beautiful trail systems, state and federally listed species, and access to Big Creek and its estuary as it flows into the Bay of Green Bay. Crossroads works in close partnership with other nonprofits, Universities, and organizations in Door County.
Crossroads mission is to inspire environmental stewardship in learners of all ages. These LTE positions would lead by example. These positions would work closely with Crossroads Facilities and Lands Manager and gain a hands on experience implementing invasive species control, volunteer oversight, restoration plantings, trail maintenance, education programming, and habitat management.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Invasive species management including mechanical and potentially chemical control.
- Trail maintenance including removal of brush and/or downed limbs, mowing, and patching ADA gravel trails.
- Lead/helping lead work groups to address invasive species management, seedling plantings, etc.
- Seedling plantings and sowing seeds.
- Leading children’s educational programs
- Habitat maintenance and monitoring. Evaluating with the Land Manager various ecological habitats throughout Crossroads properties to access future land management efforts.
Benefits include:
- Flexible scheduling. These positions can allow for a second job. Weekly work schedule would need to be agreed upon by Executive Director and Facilities and Lands Manager.
- Pay $19 per hour.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pursuing or have received an associate or bachelor’s degree in the fields of Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or similar field.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Experience with working with yard equipment such as lawn mowers, weed whackers, etc.
- Good communication skills.
- Plant identification experience.
