The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) – Wildlife Biologist at our offices, in Antigo, WI.

The position is anticipated to begin in May 2025. However, start and end times may be flexible as well as hours worked per week.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Deer Management Assistance Program’s (DMAP) antlerless tag program. Including working with private landowners to coordinate site visits, collect deer impact data (deer browse, forest regeneration), and provide written reports and antlerless tags where appropriate.

80% Coordinate and implement DMAP’s antlerless tag program

• Conduct property assessments for DMAP members requesting antlerless tags across the state including coordinating site visits with members, collecting accurate and complete data, writing property assessment summaries, and working with the local DMAP biologist to determine appropriate tag allocations
• Develop antlerless tag authorization lists for GoWild staff
• Assign DMAP tag authorizations to qualifying DMAP members in coordination with the local DMAP biologist
• Develop custom annual harvest reports for DMAP members

10% Provide quality customer service to DMAP members

• Assist DMAP members with MyDMAP technical support
• Respond to customer inquiries in a timely, respectful manner

10% Maintain familiarity with DMAP programs and offerings as well as the latest information on deer and habitat management

• Assist DMAP biologists with conducting site visits including providing DMAP member’s with notes following the visit
• Stay up-to-date on the latest deer and habitat management information

Salary Information

This position pays $20.65 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 15-04. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan. 

Job Details

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.

6. Has established a residence, as defined in s. 6.10(1), in this state not less than 10 days earlier; 
7. Has resided in this state for not less than a total of one year out of the immediately preceding 5 years; 
8. Is eligible to register to vote in this state; or 
9. Is the spouse of a person meeting the requirements of par. (a), (b), or (c).” s.230.03(12), Wis. Stats.

Minimally qualified applicants will have the following:

• Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral formats
• Skilled in taking and maintaining accurate, complete field data
• General knowledge of plant and tree identification

In addition, well-qualified applicants will have the following:

• Experience conducting forest inventory, deer browse, or plant surveys
• Experience writing technical reports for a general audience
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
• General knowledge of wildlife habitat types, deer, and wildlife biology
