The Maine Appalachian Trail Club is hiring! If you’re passionate about the outdoors and want to help maintain and protect the Appalachian Trail, consider joining one of these exciting positions:
Positions Available:
1. Trail Crew Leader
- Pay: $22-$24/hour
- Responsibilities:
- Supervise a small paid/volunteer trail crew.
- Camp in remote sections of the Appalachian Trail.
- Reconstruct degraded trails, build stone steps, waterbars, and relocations.
- Receive advanced training in stonework and rigging.
2. Trail Crew Coordinator
- Pay: $20-$21/hour
- Responsibilities:
- Manage basecamp operations and logistics.
- Plan and prepare meals for backcountry and basecamp.
- Support and transport staff and volunteers.
- Occasionally participate in trail work.
3. Crew Members
- Pay: $17-$18/hour
- Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a trail crew to reconstruct and maintain trail sections.
- Camp in remote areas.
- Build stone steps, waterbars, and trail relocations.
4. Ridgerunners
- Pay: $18-$22/hour
- Responsibilities:
- Live and work in remote Appalachian Trail locations.
- Educate hikers on low-impact camping and hiking ethics.
- Steward summits and ridgelines.
- Perform light maintenance at campsites.
Key Details:
- Dates:
- Trail Crew: Mid-May to the end of August.
- Ridgerunners: May 16 to October 19.
- Living Arrangements:
- Staff camp at backcountry sites during workdays.
- Days-off housing provided for free at the Trail Center in Skowhegan (includes bunk bedrooms, kitchen, storage, Wi-Fi, showers, and laundry).
- Requirements:
- Personal transportation required.
- Pets are prohibited.
