Job Description

The Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) at Northern Arizona University is the recipient of a three-year cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agreement to support and administer the National Tribal Air Association (NTAA). NTAA was founded in 2002 with a mission to advance air quality management policies and programs, consistent with the needs, interests, and unique legal status of American Indian Tribes and Alaska Natives.

We are seeking an energetic and experienced individual to manage and lead a small but dedicated team of technical and program specialist to help advance the mission of the NTAA. This position reports to ITEP's Co-Director.

Program Management & Operations - 50%

-Oversee and manage cooperative agreement tasks & deliverables

  • Work closely with supervisor and EPA project officer to provide grant management oversight and ensure project deliverables are met
  • Coordinates logistical and administrative support for the NTAA's Executive Committee
  • Development and support of monthly virtual meetings
  • Development and support of semi-annual in-person meetings
  • Oversight and support of NTAA workgroups

-Outreach and Communication

  • Production of monthly NTAA e-newsletter distributed broadly to Tribes, EPA and others
  • Ensures NTAA website is up-to-date and functions to communicate the resources available to Tribes
  • Coordination of monthly NTAA-EPA-Tribal policy webinars
  • Attends meetings and events as necessary and appropriate to promote and represent NTAA

-Annual NTAA Membership Meeting

  • Works closely with NTAA executive committee to plan and deliver an annual NTAA membership meeting as part of the National Tribal Air Quality Forum conducted by ITEP

-Management of Policy Advisory Committee

  • Coordinates regularly with the NTAA policy advisory committee to conduct analysis of EPA air actions that have potential to impact Tribes
  • Shares policy resources with Tribes broadly
  • Attends meetings and events as necessary and appropriate to promote and represent NTAA

Reports and Program Evaluation - 25%

  • Annual program assessment: conduct peer assessment to determine areas of program that are performing well and areas requiring attention or improvement
    Quarterly reporting: develops quarterly reports for EPA & NTAA
    Status of Tribal Air Report (STAR): leads program staff and other contributors in the development of an annual report profiling the beneficial impacts of Tribal Air Programs to a national audience

Supervision and Mentoring of Staff - 20%

  • Provides regular and consistent support, guidance and supervision for one full-time program coordinator, and a part-time project assistant
  •  Responsible for conducting annual staff evaluations following guidance and standards provided by NAU

Other - 5%

  • Perform other duties as assigned and as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • 1-2 years of management or supervisory experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in relevant field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.

  • Intermediate knowledge of higher education administrative systems and related business principles.
  • Intermediate knowledge of industry compliance laws and administrative practices.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.

Background Information

Salary

Anticipated salary range is $65,000 - $70,000. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
