Job Description:

As the Marketing and Development Specialist, you will play a vital role in advancing the mission and goals of the Gaviota Coast Conservancy by leading marketing and fundraising initiatives. You will collaborate closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement strategies that increase awareness, engagement, and support the financial sustainability of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising Campaigns: Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of fundraising campaigns, including direct mail, email, online giving, and special events.
  • Communication and Marketing: Collaborate with the Executive Director to create content for fundraising appeals, newsletters, website updates, and social media posts. Ensure messaging is consistent with the organization's brand and mission, communicates the organization’s impact and attracts supporters.
  • Public Relations: Cultivate relationships with media outlets, influencers, and stakeholders to secure press coverage and partnerships that amplify our message.
  • Events Support: Provide logistical support for fundraising events, including coordination of venue, catering, invitations, and materials. Assist in recruiting volunteers and coordinating event logistics on-site.
  • Donor Relations: Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and other supporters. Provide excellent donor stewardship through personalized communication, acknowledgment, and recognition efforts.
  • Database Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in the organization's database. Ensure timely entry of gifts, generate acknowledgment letters, and run reports as needed for analysis and reporting purposes.
  • Prospect Research: Conduct research to identify and qualify potential major donors, corporate partners, and grant prospects. Assist in developing cultivation and solicitation strategies for donor prospects.
  • Grant Research and Writing: Assist in identifying grant opportunities, conducting research, and preparing grant proposals and reports. Collaborate with program staff to gather information and data for grant submissions.
  • Budget and Reporting: Assist in the preparation of development budgets, revenue projections, and financial reports. Monitor fundraising progress against goals and provide regular updates to the development team and leadership.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the development team, program staff, volunteers, and board members to ensure alignment of fundraising efforts with organizational priorities and goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, or related field.
  • Proven experience in marketing, fundraising, or development roles, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences.
  • Strong digital marketing skills, including proficiency in social media management, email marketing platforms, and website content management systems.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Passion for environmental conservation and commitment to the mission of the Gaviota Coast Conservancy.
