Description:

The Natural Resource Parks Technician is responsible for providing a wide variety of semi-skilled labor to support the management of the Jefferson County Open Space (JCOS) properties. Utilize hand and power tools, motor vehicles and specialized power equipment. Monitoring, reporting, implementation, operating and maintain equipment/tools, training, pursuant to natural resource management.

Schedule: This full-time position operates on a four-day work week (Monday-Thursday) from 7:00 AM-5:30P. This is an on-site position that may require overtime work.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $25.00 - $27.00 USD Hourly

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

Please note this is a limited position anticipated to start 4/20/25 and end around October 2025; however, we are flexible with the end date. We highly encourage college candidates to apply!

Benefits: The employment status is Limited (Fixed-Term) with an anticipated assignment end date after one year and is eligible for personal medical coverage following the month after you start. 

Essential Duties

Resource Management:

  • Assist with vegetation inventories, plant identification, native seed collections and plantings.
  • As Needed: Assist with wildlife management, grassland management, wetland inventories, noxious weed management, and forest management.
  • Demonstrate willingness to develop new skills and experience regarding natural resource management.

Public Outreach/Engagement:

  • Provide training for volunteer projects in collaboration with other Open Space staff.
  • Assist Lookout Mountain Nature Center with natural resource outreach information, both personal and non-personal.
  • Interact with park neighbors and on-site park visitors concerning natural resource management activities.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Minimal Qualifications:
  • One year of work-related experience in natural resource management, ecology, botany or a similar field AND
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certificate
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in natural resources management.
  • One or more years of experience in natural resource management
  • Experience with natural resource inventory and monitoring
  • Experience with natural resource management in Colorado ecosystems

Additional Job Information

  • Must be able to safely navigate mountain roads using trucks and potentially UTVs, and hike long distances over rough terrain using GPS or other navigation tools carrying personal supplies and project gear.
  • Must have a valid driver's license; if you are from out of state, you must have a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire date, and you must not have any major violations or DUI, DWI, DWAI convictions.
