Position - Natural Science Specialist
Location - Roper Mountain Science Center
Pay schedule – Full-time, 245 day; Administrative/Supervisory Scale K ($56,889-$93,639)
Daily Schedule – 8:30am – 5:00pm (Includes after-hours events and weekends as needed)
Major Responsibilities:
1. Instruct daily, standards-based lessons for elementary and middle school students
2. Create new and innovative standards-based, hands-on natural science lessons that engage students in the inquiry process.
3. Plan, organize, and provide high quality science programs for students, teachers, and the public (summer exploration camps, Summer Adventure, after school programs, virtual, professional development, workshops, outreach, etc.).
4. Extend the impact of RMSC lessons and programs through pre-visits, post-visits, virtually, and through new and innovative techniques.
5. Care for, maintain and create indoor and outdoor teaching spaces, technology, materials, and exhibits.
6. Creatively improve and expand programs and facilities through grants, donations, acquisitions and community partnerships
7. Assist with animal care.
8. Assist with the volunteer program
9. Manage budget and assist with purchasing.
10. Manage part-time instructional staff and lab assistants.
11. Follow procedures and policies of the district.
12. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
1. Preferred Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in the field of environmental science, natural science, or education,
2. minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a formal or informal setting preferred;
3. demonstrable knowledge of the natural history of the southeastern United States;
4. proven experience working with collaborative teams to effectively develop, market and deliver high- quality life science and natural history programs;
5. strong organizational, writing and communication skills;
6. strong commitment to student education, customer service and creative problem solving;
7. proven skills required to create and maintain exhibits and care for animals.
