Location: New Jersey Audubon’s Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary, Bernardsville, NJ Reports To: Program Director / Camp Director Job Classification Seasonal, 35 hours/week, Monday through Friday. 

Job Description: 

Enthusiastic candidates to serve as Nature Camp Senior Counselors to assist the summer camp program staff by working directly with young children in an outdoor learning environment.   

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Assist instructors in providing a fun and educational experience for campers that have a strong focus on awareness and respect for the natural world. 
  • Assist instructors in group management including encouraging campers to participate in all activities. 
  • Support campers during activities such as outdoor exploration, games, and crafts. 
  • Oversee campers during breaks such as lunch and snack time (if applicable). 
  • Under supervision, develop and lead special camp activities and programs as appropriate. 
  • Assist with daily setup and breakdown of all program aspects including all cleaning procedures related to health and safety protocols. 

Other 

  • Attend mandatory camp orientation and training. 
  • Participate with staff and volunteers to adopt a team approach towards daily operations.  
  • Assume additional responsibilities as requested by supervisor and staff.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be 16+ years old. 
  • Prior experience in a summer camp setting. 
  • Must appreciate nature and enjoy working with youth outdoors. 
  • Must be reliable, punctual and adhere to agreed upon time commitment. 
  • Willing to occasionally be in leadership roles with children and youth. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to relate to and motivate a diverse group of people.  
  • Able to accept direction and constructive feedback. 
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces such as nature trails, walking in a stream or pond, or in sand. 
  • Able to lift and move boxes, tables, chairs, and discovery equipment (up to 50 lbs.) as part of class set up or program delivery.   
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to camp. 

 Date Range: June 23 through August 29, 2025.  Must commit to at least 4 weeks of summer camp.
