Summary of Position:
Grass River Natural Area (GRNA) is seeking enthusiastic and creative individuals for its Nature Education Internship. This position offers hands-on experience in environmental education, with responsibilities that include leading summer camps, school programs, public events, and other educational initiatives. The intern will collaborate with the Education Director and naturalists to engage visitors and promote a deeper appreciation for the natural world at the Grass River Center in Bellaire, Michigan, and its surrounding area. Additional duties may include assisting with outreach programs and contributing to natural resource monitoring and conservation efforts.
Preferred Experience:
- Strong interest in the natural sciences, outdoor education, or related fields
- Experience working with children and adults in an outdoor or educational setting
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
- Passion for the outdoors and a commitment to promoting environmental stewardship
- Proficiency with computer programs and technology, like Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
Primary Duties:
- Develop, organize, and lead nature programs, including 4-5 weeks of summer camp
- Welcome visitors to the Grass River Center, providing exceptional customer service
- Develop and maintain displays and educational exhibits
- Assist with program registration, bookstore operations, and routine site maintenance
- Support natural resource monitoring and conservation initiatives
Grass River Natural Area’s mission is to manage the Grass River Natural Area, conserve and protect its watershed, and provide opportunities that increase knowledge, appreciation and community-wide stewardship of the natural environment.
This is a paid internship offering $13 per hour in 2025. Please note that housing is not provided but may be available at low-cost through some local partners.
