Northern Utah Grassroots Coordinator
Grow the Flow
Ogden/Logan, Utah
In order to build a robust citizen lobby ready to act for Great Salt Lake, Grow the Flow needs a consistent presence at community events throughout the watershed. The Community Outreach Coordinator will identify public events, lead communications with event organizers, and represent Grow the Flow. Additionally, the Coordinator will manage a subset of Grow the Flow volunteers and interns (in a chapter structure) to participate in tabling and public communication. Representation at said events will often include tabling, speaking on behalf of Grow the Flow, or participating in grass-roots organizing activities. Community events will take place throughout Northern Utah—from Bear Lake to Salt Lake—and they will provide a unique opportunity for the Coordinator to travel the watershed, learn from distinct communities, and connect with the places and people we call home. With the chapter groups, you will also strategize ways to effectively communicate and engage with local lawmakers, farmers, and other constituency blocks.
The ideal candidate:
- Has strong interpersonal skills, including with strangers
- Has leadership experience and is comfortable leading meetings, speaking in front of groups, and delegating and following-up on assignments
- Has the ability to speak clearly about issues facing Great Salt Lake
- Is an upper-level college student or grad student with a background preferably in environmental studies, policy, and/or community organizing or communications
- has a car, valid driver's license, and willingness to travel across the watershed to participate in events
- values creating connections with community members from a wide range of backgrounds, belief systems, and upbringings—especially in the face of differences
- has a strong, personal relationship with Utah and ability to use this connection to activate new members of our network
The Coordinator will be compensated hourly and receive reimbursement for travel expenses including mileage, meals/snacks, and lodging when necessary. Wages start at $15/hour and are raised through time and experience.
