Ipswich made land conservation a dedicated priority nearly twenty-five years ago when it established the Open Space Program within the Department of Planning and Development. Town citizens approved the designation of funds to support both land protection acquisitions, as well as operational funds for Program staffing and expenses. The Program has successfully protected nearly 1,000 acres of land in those 25 years, and manages stewardship of approximately 1,700 acres of conserved land. Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree and at least three years of experience with land acquisition, open space planning, and/or conservation required. Master's degree in environmental sciences, planning or related field preferred.
- Knowledge of basic real estate practice and principles.
- Ability to read and interpret survey and development plans.
- Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) required; ability to use software, produce maps, and conduct analyses of open space properties preferred.
- Knowledge of GPS data collecting preferred.
- Skills to update, maintain and enhance Open Space Program webpage on Town website, and to use social media for outreach and publicity about the work of the Program.
