What’s the job?
The Outdoor Education Instructor (OEI) is responsible for trip delivery by actively participating in a minimum of eight two-day overnight camp/camping trips during the 2025 calendar year. This position works collaboratively with other OEIs and project team members. Primary job duties include completing the instructor training program and actively participating in trip activities and tasks. Work in this position may require virtual and/or in-person attendance.
- Successfully complete the required two-month training & certification program for project team members. Training dates are once a week in the evenings and on the weekends.
- Active, hands-on instruction, guidance, and supervision of youth (middle & high school-aged) during two-day overnight trips throughout Southern California. Trips are usually on weekends and during the summer on the weekdays.
- Ensure safe, rewarding, and enriching programs for participants by following the company policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the youth participants’ care, safety, and well-being on trips.
- Participate in the continual evaluation and improvement of project systems and curriculum.
- Contribute to project delivery within established budgets and schedules.
- Support the project team during important outreach events by connecting with community members.
You and your experience:
- Minimum of two years of recent field experience providing professional outdoor programming to youth as a support or lead instructor.
- Current Wilderness First Aid certification from a nationally recognized provider.
- Knowledge of outdoor trip planning systems, risk management, participant supervision, curriculum delivery, and demonstrated skills in interpretation, hiking, camping, and/or other related outdoor fields.
- Proven experience and success working with diverse populations with varying backgrounds, ages, needs, and expectations.
- Able to learn and operate software such as Google Suite, ADP Payroll, Zoom, etc...

- Epinephrine Auto-Injector
- California Food Handler Certificate
- Youth Mental Health First Aid
- Certified Interpretive Guiding (CIG) course
- Leave No Trace Level 1 or higher Instructor
- Commitment to youth development and to working with youth from underserved and overlooked populations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual or multilingual is a plus but not required.
*Unless otherwise stated, the employer will cover the training cost and training time for newly hired employees to complete the required training. A Wilderness First Aid or higher certificate is considered a prerequisite for employment and is not covered by the employer.
Job Schedule:
Flexible enough to work around a full-time job.
Compensation:
- This position will be compensated at $20 & $30/hr, depending on activities and tasks outlined in the job description. Overtime opportunities are available.
