We are looking for an effective communicator and event planner to coordinate our adult education & member engagement efforts throughout the Anacostia watershed. This role will lead our public engagement & educational programming, which range from ARK hosted educational events to tabling at community events throughout the watershed. This role will be charged with logistics and planning for several major events through the year, from conception to day-of logistics.  Additionally, this position will manage our virtual education materials on our website and social media. To succeed in this role, you should have excellent writing, planning, time management, and communication skills.

Note- this is a 40 hr/ week salaried position that runs from Tuesday-Saturday, with regular evening obligations. 

Duties are as follows:

  • Plan, coordinate & deliver ARK public events (Member Meetings, River Roundtable, River Summit, etc) that engage & educate the public on issues facing the Anacostia River. 
  • Run ARK’s social media (Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, etc) with regular posts with educational information, action alerts, volunteer opportunities, donation drives, etc 
  • Produce monthly blogs and newsletters, alongside ARK staff and volunteer network.
  • Plan & coordinate tabling efforts at community events across the watershed, alongside volunteers and seasonal ARK interns. 
  • Regularly lead registration tables at fishing and cleanup events. 
  • Assist staff with other programs as needed!

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental policy, communications, or related field
  • Outgoing & comfortable with public speaking
  • Excellent communication, presentation, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong science writing skills
  • Strong self-efficacy & time management skills
  • Possess a commitment to environmental protection and environmental justice
  • Regular weekend & evening availability

Preferred:

  • Experience in Microsoft, Google Calendar, Canva, Constant Contact, Adobe Creative Suite or other organization/ communication softwares.
  • Experience running social media accounts and/or newsletters
  • Event planning experience
  • Spanish language proficiency 
  • Website management
