Uplands Outreach & Engagement Manager, WMS1

Salary: $86,784.00 - $101,208.00 Annually

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, promote, attend, and support outreach events and activities by Uplands and, as appropriate, partner with other divisions, regions, and Executive Management.
  • Maintain database of external contacts, organizations, and engagements.
  • As needed, arrange meetings and events between external partners and Uplands leadership.
  • Subject Matter Expert and key point of contact for external contacts and organizations related to, or working with Uplands including environmental organizations, trust beneficiaries, elected officials, businesses that work on public lands, labor, and community organizations.
  • Collaborate with the Communications department on press engagement strategy, outreach, and materials.
  • Lead in developing and implementing key public education initiatives with the Communications department and external partners
  • Utilize strategic decision-making to develop a robust public outreach and education strategy for Uplands
  • Identify audiences and outreach opportunities to increase awareness and impact of Uplands activities and build strategies to advance and sustain Uplands and related agency priorities.
  • Utilize strategic decision-making to develop a robust public outreach and education strategy for Uplands.
  • Anticipate and adapt quickly to changing political and social aspects of trust land management, natural areas management, and recreation in what may be unknown or unusual areas.
  • Manage the implementation of the strategy.
  • Make strategic decisions on engagement strategies and anticipate counter-attacks or criticism of uplands work from external parties.
  • Develop and implement goals and activities to educate the public on Uplands activities.
  • Collaborate with Region Managers to align and complement outreach activities.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, multimedia, public policy, engineering, natural resources, or other closely related field
    AND 3 years of professional experience that includes staff management and leading public outreach and partner development, preferably for a public agency, elected official, or company that generates significant public and media interest.
    OR an equivalent combination of education and/or professional experience that includes staff management and leading public outreach and partner development, preferably for a public agency, elected official, or company that generates significant public and media interest.
  • An ability to work in and with culturally and economically diverse populations with knowledge of and sensitivity to those populations.
  • An ability to communicate various agency business topics, functions, and decisions (including technical information) to varying audiences effectively and professionally.
  • An ability to manage conflicting priorities and manage time effectively.
  • An ability to manage diverse staff spread across multiple duty stations.
  • An ability to track, understand, work with large datasets, and summarize findings.
  • An ability to confidently speak publicly on behalf of a large, dynamic team.
  • A willingness to regularly solve problems independently and identify when to request support.
