Are you passionate about Barton Springs and protecting the environment of Austin, Texas? Want to work for an outstanding environmental nonprofit that has protected Barton Springs, the Edwards Aquifer and Barton Creek Watershed for over 30 years? If the answer is yes, we encourage you to join Save Our Springs Alliance in our quest to protect our home lands, waters, and wildlife from pollution and over-development.

SOS Alliance is seeking an outgoing, organized and motivated individual to join our outreach team. Experience with conservation advocacy, sales and/or environmental policy highly desired, but not required. This position offers an incredible opportunity for Austinites to make a direct, positive impact in their own community.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other team members and outreach coordinator as a representative for Save Our Springs Alliance for weekly in-person tabling outreach efforts.
  • Productively and positively engage members of the public in dialogue around current and immediate conservation issues.
  • Assist interested persons in becoming more involved with SOS through membership activation, petition signing, communicating with elected officials, attending city council meetings and/or volunteering at future events.
  • Provide information about SOS Alliance and local environmental issues to the public and educate fellow Austinites about ways to support SOS Alliance.
  • Help maintain a safe and functional outdoor tabling environment.
  • Assist with outreach on social media (Facebook,, Instagram etc.) and at local events

*Additional opportunities to assist with outreach events, guided walks and tours at Barton Springs Pool for exceptional candidates

Desired Skills:

  • Outgoing, comfortable with public speaking and engaging with others in respectful, thoughtful conversation.
  • Positive attitude and enjoys being outdoors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people from different walks of life.
  • Advanced listening skills; avoids lecturing others or going on long tangents.
  • Reliable means of transportation to outreach sites in south Austin.
  • Ability to read and comprehend press releases, news articles and other training materials around conservation issues in Austin, Texas.
  • Background in activism, civic engagement and environmental policy (water quality, land use, conservation) a plus but not required.
  • Spanish fluency is a plus but not required.

$17 - $25 hour
