The International Crane Foundation (ICF) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Outreach Biologist to join our team near our Rockport, Texas office in Coastal Bend area. At ICF, we work tirelessly to protect cranes and their ecosystems around the world. As part of our efforts, the Outreach Biologist will be integral in educating local communities, stakeholders, and partners about the importance of Whooping Crane conservation and ICF’s research and habitat protection work. This role combines hands-on fieldwork with public outreach to help safeguard one of North America’s most iconic and endangered species. This full-time, salaried position has an ideal start date of May and a pay range between $42,000-$45,000 per year. About the Role
The Outreach Biologist will lead outreach initiatives in coastal Texas, communicating crucial information about Whooping Cranes, their behavior, and their protection needs. You will represent ICF at various events, such as festivals, banquets, field days, and community gatherings. Through presentations and knowledge-sharing, you will raise awareness about Whooping Cranes and educate the public on the steps ICF is taking to protect their habitats. In addition to outreach, you will play a vital role in supporting ICF’s crane behavior research and citizen science program. This includes training and supervising volunteers, conducting field and computer-based research activities, and helping collect valuable data to inform conservation efforts. You will coordinate and lead outreach and education efforts by organizing and presenting events to a wide variety of groups, including birding clubs, farmers, hunters, educators, and local communities. A key aspect of this position also involves engaging hunting groups by providing educational materials to hunting guides and lodges, helping to raise awareness of Whooping Cranes and reduce the risk of accidental shootings. Furthermore, you’ll maintain detailed data on outreach program metrics, including volunteer participation and public engagement.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a biological field, communications, sociology, or related discipline.
• Preferably three years of experience in education, outreach, or a related field.
• Strong experience in delivering presentations and educational programs to diverse audiences.
• Experience in fieldwork, data collection, and data entry.
• Proven ability to recruit, train, and manage volunteers effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
