The City of Raleigh is seeking an enthusiastic Park Operations Specialist to perform a variety of tasks including park operations, natural resource management, and providing customer service. You will support outdoor recreation program and be part of our Essential Staff. Duties will include supervising facility and park in the absence of full-time staff. Lake Wheeler Park contains approximately 800 acres of waterway and park land. Park provides opportunities for water activities, boating, fishing, hiking trails, picnic shelters, and outdoors. We offer the public multiple rental facilities including shelters and conference room. Successful candidates will have the ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities to provide quality public service.
Duties and Responsibilities
Knowledge:
- Understanding of outdoor environments and willingness to work in those environments.
- Understand the value of outdoor recreation for members of the community.
Skills:
- Operates a Personal Utility Vehicle, Park Truck and park tools to perform park maintenance.
- Assists recreation instructors or full-time staff with the delivery of a variety of programs including Fitness, Wellness, Hiking, Kayaking, Stand up Paddle Boards, and Nature Education.
- Offer customer support to patrons in a multitude of situations including introduction to park amenities, interpretation of rules, and program offerings.
Abilities:
- Able to manage multiple tasks and projects successfully.
- Able to problem solve and perform conflict resolution resulting in positive outcomes.
- Able to utilize a computer and various software to perform administrative tasks.
Typical Qualifications
Candidates for this position must be at least 18 years of age and have experience working in a customer service setting. A candidate should possess excellent verbal and written skills. Applicants with interests and/or experience in outdoor recreation including wilderness skills, hiking, fishing or education are encouraged to apply. This position requires the candidate to be able to lift at least 30lbs and walk at least one mile over rough terrain. Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a City of Raleigh Driver's Permit.
Additional Information
This is a 15-20-hr a week position with weekend, holiday, and some evening hours required. Schedule will vary due to park project and programs and needs.
