The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, Bureau of Parks and Lands Division, is recruiting to fill a Full Time Seasonal (30 Weeks) Park Ranger position, located in Richmond.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is maintenance and personal services work at boat launching facilities in central and southern Maine, enforcing boating facility rules and regulations, patrolling facilities, reporting problems and malfunctions, and mowing lawns. 

  • Performing routine maintenance and repair on various elements of the boat site
  • Boat launching concrete ramps, floats, access drives, parking areas, lawns, pathways and cleaning the toilet facilities to ensure that they are in a safe, clean and attractive condition
  • Maintain facility buildings and equipment, paint buildings, pavement striping with powered spraying equipment, light carpentry, and shingle roofs

The person in this position must be able to operate a range of equipment including vehicles, tractors, mowers, and other power and hand tools safely and efficiently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One (1) year of experience in park maintenance and operation or equivalent.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class): Valid Class C Maine motor vehicle operator’s license.

Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge and qualifications in the following areas:

  • Experience in painting
  • Operating powered painting equipment
  • Light carpentry

Job offers to a new hire are conditional upon verification of credentials, criminal record, and driver’s license check if applicable. The following general information pertains to seasonal employment at Maine State Parks: 

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older (Lifeguards must be 16 or older)
  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or have legal authority to work in the U.S.
  • Housing is provided in the Penobscot River Corridor and the Allagash Wilderness Waterway
  • In general, housing is not available at the other parks
  • Most positions are scheduled to work 40 hours each week, with weekends and some holidays required
  • Parks seasonal positions are required to wear uniforms which are provided by the agency
