Description: Wildlife rehabilitation staff position offered at a wildlife rehabilitation center in central Idaho. Snowdon is a small, nonprofit operation whose mission is to rescue and rehabilitate injured and orphaned animals and return them to the wild. The staff member may live onsite at Snowdon and are expected to commit to 3 days of work per week with idea that the staff member can get another part time job to help supplement if wanted/needed. The staff member will provide all aspects of wildlife care at the sanctuary. This staff position involves working directly with the wild animals that come into the sanctuary by rescuing wildlife in distress, assisting with intake exams on animals, administering medication/physical therapy, and animal husbandry.

 Additional duties include: Enclosure and site maintenance, food preparation and feeding, cleaning enclosures, general observation of animals’ health, keeping the clinic clean, answering telephone, helping with paperwork/data input, story writing for newsletters, and essentially stepping up as manager when manager is not available/around.

Location: Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary is located 7 mi from the town of McCall, Idaho, on 35 isolated acres of pristine mountain land. Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary is “off the grid”. Snowdon runs primarily off solar and propane generators.

Wages: $20,000/year with free housing in intern cabin and free utilities.

Amenities: Two-story cabin with propane heat (fully furnished, running water, propane fridge/freezer). Unlimited recreational opportunities out the back door! 

Qualifications: An interest in wildlife rehabilitation with course work in wildlife biology, ornithology, mammalogy, pre-vet or similar preferred; Experience working with wild or domestic animals in a supervised animal care setting (zoo, rehabilitation, veterinary, biological research, etc.) is required; Must be able to work independently and in all weather conditions; Ability to interact and communicate with the public on distress calls and educational programs; Have a valid driver’s license; Must have own vehicle for personal use; Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs; Must have current tetanus shot; Rabies vaccination is strongly preferred.
