Position Title: Fisheries Technician AmeriCorps Member - 480 Hour

Position Summary:
The Krassel Ranger District, Payette National Forest (PNF) is recruiting two 480 Hour Fisheries AmeriCorps Members to work as a part of the PNF Fish Crew for the 2025 field season. This position is currently funded for 480 hours from June to August 2025. The work schedule is Monday-Thursday (4, 10-hour days) and requires frequent overnight travel (camping). Government housing is provided.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Independently and as a part of a crew, complete multiple forms of aquatic based surveying on the Payette National Forest. The duties (100%) for this position include but are not limited to, driving and hiking into remote areas, wading in streams with field surveying gear, snorkeling in various stream conditions, electrofishing, core sampling of streambeds (requires lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs of sediment) and collecting and recording stream habitat data based on multiple protocols. The position requires camping out 1-4 nights a week most of the summer.
Required Qualifications:
- Ages 18-30 (up to 35 for veterans)
- S. Citizen or lawful, permanent resident
- Must pass a background/driver check
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Team Player
- Ability to hike long distances and lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work outdoors in remote settings for multiple days at a time.
- Good verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail
- Self-motivated, reliable, and able
- Positive attitude and ability to solve problems.
Desired Qualifications:
- Interest in a career in fisheries/wildlife management
- Experience in basic GPS navigation
- Completion of coursework in the natural sciences
- Driver’s License
- Personal transportation
Duty Location:
Duties are performed across the Payette National Forest. Based out of Krassel Ranger District office - McCall, Idaho. Government housing is provided.
Terms of Employment:
AmeriCorps members will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours), starting May through August 2025. The member must complete a minimum of 480 service hours by the end of their term (length dependent on commitment of hours). The member will receive a 30-minute lunch each day and this lunch break does not count towards AmeriCorps member service hours. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours.
Program Benefits:
$7,680 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis and upon successful completion of program requirements, education award amount of $1,956.35. The position will also include a $194.12 gear reimbursement fund. Housing will be provided.
The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check.
