Green River Preserve is a nonprofit co-ed summer camp in western North Carolina with a mission to inspire environmental stewards through a joyful connection to nature.
The Program Intern assists the Programs Director with camp logistics, staff coaching, program planning, instruction, and more! Join as a seasonal member of our Administrative team to learn from career outdoor education professionals who live to teach youth in the diverse ecosystems of Western North Carolina's Blue Ridge.
Observe camp activities, create schedules, and PLAY in our tight-knit community. Green River Preserve is an intentionally small camp community with a maximum of 112 campers at one time. Our program highlights include:
- Daily Mentor hikes, led by environmental educators and career teachers, exploring our 3,400-acre nature preserve. Support transportation logistics on radio, serve as a backup hike leader, and aid Mentors in lesson preparation.
- CampOut: Our beginner backpacking program. Coach counselors in planning 3-day, 2-night backpacking trips for their campers ages 7-14. Assist the Operations Intern in gear preparation, aid Mentors in teaching essential camping/backwoods skills, and serve on our administrative on-call team while campers and staff are on program.
- Camp activities from climbing to mountain biking to fencing to nature art and more!! Observe and offer coaching to Activity Coordinators. Work with activity staff to improve curricula.
Requirements:
- Minimum 21 years old
- At least 2 of these 3:
- Experience teaching or facilitating in a classroom, outdoor, or other group setting.
- Professional or personal experience with camping or backpacking/wilderness adventures.
- Previous professional childcare experience, preferably in a camp setting.
- Wilderness First Aid certified or willing to become certified (training provided)
- Must commit to our full Summer season: May 22 - August 8, 2025
**Please only apply if you can make that commitment. - Not a requirement, but helpful: CDL Class B (We use campified school buses to transport our campers throughout our 3,400-acre nature preserve.)
