The Chappell Group, Inc. is currently seeking:

Project Biologist (Full Time)

The Chappell Group, Inc. is seeking candidates who are looking to work in a dynamic, professional services environment. This position is a mix of office time and field work, Full-Time, M-F, 8am-4:30pm (40hrs/Salary) in office position in the Pompano Beach, FL office. Must reside locally to apply. The ideal candidate must be able to multi-task and be flexible with field work and office time, work independently and in a team environment, is willing to learn new skills, and take initiative with tasks assigned with extreme attention to detail with the ability to prepare technical documents and reports that are clear, concise, well-written, and supported.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and reviewing environmental resource permit applications
  • Wetland delineations
  • Benthic surveys-snorkeling and diving
  • Coordinating with regulatory agencies
  • Project management
  • Occasional diving for coral monitoring/snorkeling for seagrass surveys
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in a natural science (biology, environmental studies)
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with preparing environmental permit applications, exhibits, and plans
  • Preparing correspondence with agencies and clients
  • Ability to delineate wetlands
  • Identify seagrass, coral and wetland plant species
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Candidate must be proficient in snorkeling/diving; must be SCUBA certified, AAUS Scientific Diver preferred
  • Comfortable being on a vessel in all types of weather conditions and be able to snorkel and dive in all water conditions in South Florida
  • Capable of being outdoors in terrestrial and aquatic environments in South Florida during all seasons of the year
  • FL Driver’s License and clean driving record

The following are also desired skills for this position: AutoCAD/GIS capabilities, Report writing, Report Review, Flora and Fauna Identification. Microsoft Office proficient (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Adobe.
