Position Summary:
CEMML is a research, education, and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. One or more Project Manager positions are available with Colorado State University and the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) providing cooperative agreement support and oversight at Department of Defense (DoD) installations across the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. This position will work collaboratively with a CEMML Principal Investigator (PI) on common goals that satisfy the needs of individual projects and agreements. The incumbent will be exposed to all aspects of the PI’s work responsibilities from writing proposals, developing budgets, completing reporting, and reviewing deliverables to approving time and working with off-site employees, associated project sponsors, and University support offices. This position will provide computer and file management support as well as help coordinate and administer land management projects, contracts, purchase orders, equipment rentals, office/shop maintenance needs, and acquisition of other as-needed supplies and materials.

Responsibilities include:

• Help supervise multiple off-campus personnel, including Salaried, Hourly, and Students employees.
• Help manage technical, support, research, and/or professional staff members at the project level.
• Help ensures project-level compliance with internal and external rules/policies.
• With PI oversight, help with the management of Cooperative Agreements and program initiatives.
• With PI oversight, assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of project budgets.
• With PI oversight, identifies staffing/resource requirements and needs.
• Recruits and hires staff; prepares position descriptions and determines job qualifications; evaluates, interviews and participates in candidate selection.
• Adapts communication to different audiences.

Current support projects include a mixture of Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) support and Natural Resource Management support projects with both including a Geographic Information System (GIS) support component. For ITAM projects, work specifically involve heavy equipment operation, repair and maintenance of training lands, vegetation clearing, herbicide application, manual labor, training land assessment and survey, project documentation, and cartographic support. Natural resource projects include survey, management, and reporting of a variety of topics including, but limited to, threatened and endangered species, other special status species, wetlands, invasive species, plant communities, and habitat restoration. This support currently occurs at DoD installations spread across the CONUS as well as in Alaska and Hawaii.

This is a 100% remote position with occasional overnight travel to various DoD installations required for site visits.

Required Qualifications:    

• Associate’s degree in Environmental Planning, Natural Resources Management, Forestry, Geology, or closely related field.
• A minimum of three (3) years relevant post degree professional experience in the areas listed above.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must have strong organizational skills.
• Knowledge of project management principles, including management of budget and personnel, and stakeholder relations.
• Experience supervising staff and resolving conflict.
• Experience managing complex, often overlapping projects and tasks.
• Demonstrated ability working collaboratively and productively in multidisciplinary environments with a variety of stakeholders.
• Experience working on military lands.
• A thorough understanding of most standard computer programs, as well as proficiency in database management and SharePoint systems. Proficient in computer analysis for budgeting, reporting and project resource allocation.
• Must have the ability to work 100% remote. Ability to travel, as required, to project site locations spread across the United States including Hawaii and Alaska.
• Ability to work outdoors in rough terrain and inclement weather including walking long distances. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally without assistance.
• Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
• The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
