The North Carolina Aquariums on Roanoke Island is seeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Public Programs Educator. Reporting directly to the Education Curator, this position is primarily responsible for the development and implementation of educational programs to the public, school groups, and special interest groups. The Educator will present multiple public programs on environmental and marine science topics throughout the day that incorporate a variety of experiential learning methods. They will assist with touch pool coverage, respond to visitor questions, work with our animal ambassador program, develop content for exhibit signage, utilize electronic communication systems, facilitate internships, and oversee public onsite educational events. This position works collaboratively with multiple departments to achieve the overall mission of the Aquariums.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design and implement daily public programs for guests that may include the use of live animals, biofacts, or additional educational tools.
- Design and implement onsite educational events days that highlight local community partnerships, current conservation efforts, specific species, etc.
- Assist with hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising seasonal staff, interns, and volunteers
- Assist with program scheduling as necessary
- Assist with Touch Pool Coverage
- Utilize technology and A/V equipment to develop and conduct presentations
- Develop educational content for exhibit signage
- Evaluate education programs for effectiveness and conservation messaging
- Serve as a resource for teachers and community members
Position/Physical Requirements:
- Weekend, evening, and holiday work will be required.
- Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
